Large Corporations

Large corporations are the perpetrators of this problem. They try to decrease costs for a higehr profit, without thinking about the migrant workers. Corporations like Nike, Gap, Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Sears, Apple and more all have ties to sweatshops in China. Additionally by shopping and buying items made from sweatshops we are merely supporting the use of them, and in this way we as consumers can be perpetrators to this cause too.

Migrant Workers

The migrant workers are the victims. They earn only about 314 dollars a month, half of the already low local worker. This is little to nothing and they just barely get by with the money they get from sweatshops. Within China, there are about 136 million migrant workers. They are called migrant workers because they are people trying to escape poverty by moving away from home to industrial cities like Guangdong, only to find low paying jobs. Migrant workers and sweatshop workers in general face many safety problems including Silicosis, an incurable lung disease from inhaling silica dust from cuting stones and rocks. Cases of suicide are not uncommon.
